Specific Issues for Discussion
Targeted online harassment of individuals belonging to minority communities results in squeezing them out of the digital space. This harassment takes multiple forms like sending threatening messages, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, doxxing etc. Events like Bulli Bai App and Sulli Deals App which “auctioned” women belonging to the Muslim community not only violate their privacy, and objectifies but also attempt to silence them and push them out of digital spaces. It also aims to harass prominent individuals who represent the narratives of these individuals. Such harassment is an extension of harassment women have to face in the real world when they make an attempt to claim these spaces. In the light of these recent events, we would like to propose a Panel in collaboration with the Point of View, on the impact of such targeted harassment on exclusion in the digital space. The session aims to find solutions to online harassment faced by individuals belonging to minority communities, looking at the intersectionality of this harassment. Participants will also get an opportunity to interact with panelists and other participants and draw from their experiences. The panel will also look at the legal framework, prevention measures adopted by online platforms and governments, and their existing gap. Finally, spaces of resilience and resistance as a response to this targeted harassment will be explored as a larger discussion on solutions where participants will also put forth solutions that can be adopted |

Describe the Relevance of Your Session to APrIGF
The COVID-19 Pandemic has presented the internet world with new problems. Citizens, particularly women and children, have faced additional challenges as a result of the shift from the offline to the online environment. Every day, women confront a variety of dangers, including online harassment, trolling, doxing, and other forms of abuse, all of which drastically reduce their online involvement. They are increasingly vulnerable to violence and identity theft. The worst of the bunch are disenfranchised women who are unaware of how to combat these risks, causing them to leave the workforce or drop out of school. Young female students have reported being victim to numerous sorts of online harassment, including zoom bombing, identity theft, and images being released outside. This session focuses on exploring ways to make the internet a safer place for women by safeguarding women's areas. The event will go into addressing solutions to create an internet that is safe, secure, and open to all through case studies and expert voices. women need to be able to truth the internet to be included in it.
