Specific Issues for Discussion
Every country in the world is grappling with how best to regulate the internet, but - until now - there has been a comprehensive publicly available repository of global attempts to do so.

Developed by the Tech Policy Design Centre at the Australian National University, the Tech Policy Atlas is a new public repository of national tech policy, strategy, legislation, and regulation. Its purpose is to assist policymakers and researchers conduct evidence-based independent research on best practice internet regulation. The Atlas currently covers 36 jurisdictions, including 16 in the Asia-pacific, across 15 policy categories (everything from communications regulation to privacy, to cybersecurity, to data protection, to competition and consumer protection to national security).

This session will showcase the Tech Policy Atlas, encouraging APrIGF attendees to use and contribute to this powerful and growing resource. This will help build trust and ultimately advance Internet governance development in the Asia Pacific region.

You can access the Tech Policy Atlas here: https://techpolicydesign.au/tech-policy-atlas
Describe the Relevance of Your Session to APrIGF
The Tech Policy Atlas, is a world-first repository of national internet, cyber, digital, and tech policy, strategy, legislation, and regulation. Existing databases are topic specific, or privately held (for example by large multinational companies or industry associations behind paywalls. This inhibits the identification of positive and negative trends, the conduct of evidence-based independent research, and the development of actionable advice to government and industry. Combined this undermines trust. By showcasing the Tech Policy Atlas, we will help spread the word that this tool exists, and encourage APrIGF attendees to use, and contribute to the expansion of the Atlas. In turn, this will support evidence based on the effectiveness of different approaches to internet policy and regulation, best practices, and opportunities for harmonization. This showcase will help drive nuanced Internet policy, which, will ultimately advance the Internet governance development in the Asia Pacific region
