The main issues to be discussed: Discussion on regulations and implementation of Internet governance in Asia and the Pacific, including in regards to information integrity. Challenges and opportunities to safeguard online information integrity, taking into consideration 2024 as elections year, and robust development of AI. How the multistakeholder approach (including by engaging governments, civil society, private sector, and academia) is the key to advancing progressive internet governance in Asia and the Pacific. The potential solution of improving information integrity and increase public participation by leaning on community-led governance model that are open and transparent. |

Describe the Relevance of Your Session to APrIGF | |||||||||||||||||||||
In 2024, over 4 billion people will participate in elections across 64 countries, making it the biggest election year in history. The integrity of these elections is at risk due to disinformation campaigns, which can polarize society. This session would help understanding and highlighting the potential solutions of online disinformation, including during the elections year, through the strengthening of multistakeholder approach to advancing Internet governance across Asia Pacific. Our workshop aims to discuss the issues related to stocktaking internet governance policies in Asia and the Pacific especially pursuant to ensuring information integrity. The speakers would also share trajectory of challenges and opportunities for information integrity amidst robust development of aI. In addition, the speakers would share the alternative internet governance model which focus on multistakeholderims through community-led transparent mechanisms. The goal of the discussion is to highlight potential model and solutions of participatory Internet governance that will ensure transparency, to safeguard online information integrity. |

Taiwan Ministry of Digital Affairs- have myriad of expertise and insight from addressing disinformation during elections while safeguarding human rights; as well as the members of Freedom Online Coalition whom practising multistakeholderism in pushing toward a progressive Internet governance. Michael Caster, Article 19- have expertise on documenting the trends and nuances of online disinformation, including during elections in Asia and the Pacific. Fitriani, Australian Strategic Policy Institute- is the lead academician on cybersecurity and AI policy development. She is the leading academic consultant for the UN and ASEAN discussion on AI governance. Rachel J, WMF is the lead public policy specialist on Asia for Wikimedia Foundation- the non profit that host Wikipedia and other free knowledge project. She has hands on experience on community-led content moderation and able to showcase Wikimedia’s positive vision for AI. Joyce Wu, WMTW is a seasoned Wikipedia editor with robust experience on people’s participatory internet governance– which are transparent and open. She also actively edit election related articles in Mandarin and Taiwan indigenous language. |
